As February comes to a close, now’s the perfect time to tackle some home maintenance items that will refresh and restore your home for the spring season!
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Rake up leaves in your yard, lay down mulch in flowerbeds, reseed your lawn, and have any trees on your property inspected for signs of illness or dead branches, which could pose a safety hazard to you, your home, and neighboring properties.
2. Turn outside faucets back on and check for damage.
3. Inspect the outside of your home for cracks in the concrete; roof damage; wear on the chimney; and cracks or signs of water pooling in the façade and foundation.
4. Clean your gutters or hire a professional gutter cleaner, which can cost $75-$225. Clogged gutters can cause roof leaks and flood damage.
5. Sweep the patio and inspect the deck for signs of cracks or loose nails. Pull out leaves or debris between boards.
6. If you have central heat and air, schedule a biannual checkup and servicing with a HVAC technician.
7. Check your indoor pipes for signs of leaks and inspect faucets for drips.
8. Ensure that your sump pump is draining properly.
9. Have your chimney inspected and cleaned.
10. Change batteries on your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
