Developer JBG Smith, Amazon’s HQ2 landlord, has submitted a proposal to Arlington County to build nearly 1,000 new residences at Pentagon Row, near the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City mall. The new housing units would be built between the existing RiverHouse development at Army Navy Drive, South Joyce Street and South Lynn Street.
The residences include traditional townhouses, duplexes and two six-story residential buildings. The project also entails building new courtyards, retail space, and potentially day care and medical facilities. The developer’s goal is to mitigate the housing scarcity and upward pressure on rents caused by Amazon’s occupancy of its new headquarters. Construction is slated to begin in late-2020, if approved by the county.
To date, Amazon has leased more than 500,000 square feet of existing office space at JBG Smith buildings and will build its new office buildings on land purchased from the developer.
