Women’s retailer Anthropologie will take over the 37,000-square-foot Barnes & Noble space at Bethesda Row. The bookstore, which has been an anchor of downtown Bethesda since it opened in 1996, announced in March that it had failed to reach agreement on a lease extension with landlord Federal Realty Trust and would close at the end of the year.
The new Anthropologie shop, opening in the fall of 2018, will span three stories and feature a line of bridal gowns as well as clothing, furniture and home décor, beauty products, and shoes. Anthropologie also plans to open a full-service restaurant on the ground floor, with an outdoor patio along Woodmont Avenue.
