Bethesda Magazine reports today that e-commerce powerhouse Amazon plans to open a bookstore at 7117 Arlington Road, in the 6,000-square-foot space presently occupied by Urban Country. Amazon currently operates a chain of 13 brick-and-mortar bookstores across the U.S. and is constructing a Georgetown location in addition to the Bethesda store.
Before opening at Bethesda Row, Amazon will undertake a $1.5 million renovation of the space. The store will be a welcome addition to Bethesda Row, which is losing the flagship Barnes & Noble on Bethesda Avenue at the end of the year.
