Looking for something to do with your family this weekend? Here are 5 special events happening around DC:
*Before sitting down for your Thanksgiving meal, spend the morning running or walking SOME’s 5K Trot for Hunger, starting at Freedom Plaza. Proceeds from the event help DC residents with accessing food, housing, and healthcare. Children can participate in a one-mile “Little Turkey Fun Run,” starting at 8:30 AM. The 5K begins at 9 AM; $40-50 participation fee.
*The US Botanic Garden’s holiday show, “Season’s Greenings: America’s Gardens” allows you to get a glimpse into botanic gardens across the country by recreating iconic garden scenes. You can also visit the conservatory to see a showcase of poinsettia varieties. The show runs through January 5, 10 AM to 5 PM, and admission is free.
*ZooLights opens at the National Zoo on Friday, November 29, featuring 500,000 LED lights illuminating the property. Don’t miss the interactive art exhibit and musical performances. The show runs through January 1.
*DC Brau hosts its annual Holiday Market on Saturday, November 30, showcasing more than 40 regional artisans selling clothing, home goods, art, jewelry, and other items. There will also be Brau’s beer, hard seltzer, food trucks, and live music. Admission is free; open 1 PM to 5 PM.
*The Alexandria Harmonizers present “Holidays in Harmony” at Strathmore’s Music Center on Saturday, November 30. The show will feature classic and contemporary holiday tunes in the Harmonizers’ four-part harmony. Tickets are $29-$59; the show begins at 4 PM
