The fifth annual Georgetown GLOW, the region’s only curated experience of outdoor public light art installations, is going on now through January 6 from 5 – 10 pm nightly. The event features 11 exhibitions from 16 local, regional, and international artists in Georgetown’s commercial district. Georgetown GLOW is sponsored by the Georgetown Business Improvement District and supported by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities.
Below, read more about some of this year’s featured GLOW artists:
*Angelo Bonello of Italy, designed “Run Beyond,” located on the rooftops along the 3300 block of M St NW. From the artist: the exhibit is “all about the jump we strive to take in our lives–the jump to freedom. The artist does not define the kind of freedom we each seek and take risks to achieve. That is up to each of our experiences, needs and interpretation of this artwork.”
*Toer of the Netherlands, created “Social Sparkles,” located at Francis Scott Key Park (34th & M Street). A kinetic work activated by passersby moving under the artwork, Social Sparkles consists of magical cloud-like elements that create a swarm of light that fills the air above.
*Robin Bell of DC, crafted “Light,” located at Cady’s Alley between 33rd & 34th Streets. Light guides people from the Key Bridge into Georgetown. The shining light illuminates a pathway and creates a shimmering glow that mesmerizes the viewer.
